Brett McKeithan (aka BMac) brings a genuine passion for music to the airwaves. As the former host of the World Music Show at East Carolina University and an avid listener to all types of music, he has a deep understanding of global sounds and a knack for creating dynamic and entertaining playlists. His show, "BMac's Shuffle," embraces variety, spinning an assortment of upbeat tracks across multiple genres. The show's distinctive format ensures you'll never know what's coming next, but you can always count on music that lifts your spirit and makes you want to dance. Whether you're a lifelong music lover or just looking for something new and exciting to brighten your day, this show's for you.
Jim Board (aka JB Sterling) has lived all over the U.S. but has settled, in retirement, for the past seven years in the Southport area. He enjoys golfing, boating, fishing, spending time with friends and listening to music. Growing up playing and listening to many different types of music gave him a broad exposure to a variety of genres. He is looking forward to sharing his musical knowledge and experiences with his audience.
Bonnie Bray grew up near Washington, D.C. and spent years in Baltimore and Southern Maryland before moving to Southport in 2009. After retiring from a career in municipal finance, she currently consults with local governments throughout North Carolina. She and her husband are among the founding board members of Up Your Arts, a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to promote and enhance creative and performing arts in the greater Southport area. Bonnie brings an abiding appreciation for the arts to Cape Fear Radio, as well as strong ties to the community of musicians and artists who have made this region a mecca for creativity.
Ami Brown brings her behind-the-scenes creative flair to Cape Fear Radio's commercials and features. Born and raised in the Carolinas, Ami has called the charming town of Southport home for the past nine years. As a freelance screenwriter and artist, she infuses her vibrant personality into every project. When she's not crafting catchy ads, Ami loves RVing, painting, and exploring new places. Her heart for the community shows through her volunteer work and her role as Managing Editor of St. James Cat-Tales magazine.
Higgs has loved and appreciated music for as long as he can remember. This love has served as a catalyst, enriching and expanding his life in countless ways. He volunteered as a community DJ at WQFS in Greensboro for close to 20 years. His program, “Hanging With Higgs,” showcased local music events, regional musicians, bands and festivals, along with promoting nationally known musicians. Higgs resides in the Southport area and is delighted to be back on the air again. Besides radio, he also plays the mandolin, guitar and harmonica and enjoys performing at local venues.
Alan Nelson (aka Big Al) grew up in Michigan, lived in Northern California and now resides in North Carolina. He spent over 20 years in each of those states. He is in a local band and is a craft beer connoisseur as well. As a presenter for Cape Fear Radio, he looks forward to sharing music with you.
Lindsay Gebel (aka Lois Lane) is a presenter and feature producer. Raised in small-town Western New York, she grew up driving tractors and learned early on that it was normal to talk to every stranger. Having her formative years influenced by eccentric 90s artists such as Weezer and Green Day, she moved to Charlotte for college due to her lifelong love of the Charlotte Hornets jersey colors. Lindsay’s outgoing nature has landed her gigs in leadership and community service, and she appreciates her current work-from-beach job. She enjoys socializing, yard sales, travel, pickleball and alliterations. You may see her out rollerblading in Southport or with friends at local establishments. If she says “Go Bills,” don’t be alarmed — she just means “hello.”
Mike Knapp (aka Mike Kay) lives in Southport and grew up listening to WABC and WNEW in New York City. He's a retired HR person and a frustrated golfer.
David Pope has been hammering on some form of keyboards since he was about seven years old. His love of music stretches across many genres, from classical to modern rock, but jazz has always been one of his favorites. He looks forward to sharing his journey, as well as highlighting the area’s local talent and listening opportunities.
Paul Michael Owens, born in London, moved to the US when he was 5 years old. He grew up in the small town of Roxboro, NC and has been in Southport since April 2020, enabled by his IT career to work from anywhere. He has a passion for music and theater, as well as Chelsea Football Club. He enjoys beaching, boating, kayaking, and entertaining folks with his karaoke prowess at the Tiki Tavern. He’s excited to contribute his radio and theater experience to Cape Fear Radio.
Holly Oehler (aka Holly Moon) retired to the Southport area after a career starting in marketing in New York and ending in real estate in New Jersey. Her love of country music began more than 40 years ago when a roommate from college introduced her to country. Holly will be playing a variety of country favorites, both old and new. Music — and particularly country music lyrics — tell a story, says Holly. From the song “State of Mind”, written and sung by Clint Black: “Ain’t it funny how a melody can bring back a memory/Take you to another place in time/Completely change your state of mind?” Holly will change your state of mind each Monday from 9-11 p.m. on Cape Fear Country. She promises to try and ease your mind and put a smile on your face. You’ll be in Holly’s country.
Bob Menches (aka Ron Rico) is a North Carolina native. Born in Pinehurst, he grew up in Louisiana, the Philippines and finally spent his formative years in Cary, NC. An NC State graduate and ACC Champion swimmer, he retired to Southport after a career as a Naval Officer and in the defense industry. You can find Bob cruising the waters with his wife on their Ranger tug, riding around Southport on his Vespa, swimming laps at Brunswick Community College, or playing disc golf.
Matt Gio was born and raised in North Carolina. He lives in Boiling Spring Lakes with his amazing wife and long-time love Lise-Marie, their dog Lilou and cat Tinky. Matt has enjoyed a long career in corporate video and broadcast television and is currently a Director of Photography for Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the food Network. Matt has lived all over the US, from Alaska to Florida and has traveled to more than 22 countries around the world. He’s an avid photographer and loves to fly model planes and helicopters. He was among the first wave of licensed, commercial drone pilots in the US. He’s an enthusiastic home chef and loves to create one-of-a-kind meals for all to enjoy.
Cheryl Novak (aka Coach Novak) grew up in Western Massachusetts, briefly lived in Minnesota and Indiana, and moved to Southport in 2017. She has had several careers, including salon owner, paralegal, attorney and commercial broker. She has practiced law since 2004 but has since retired from that profession. After moving to Southport, Cheryl became a certified life coach. She loves the beach, yoga, concerts, animals, traveling, hanging out with family and friends, and helping people solve problems. Cheryl is a self-described music fanatic who has spent hundreds of hours over her lifetime listening to music and attending concerts. She’s excited to share her love of music with friends and the Southeast Brunswick community.
Doug Ausbury hails from the birthplace of rock ‘n roll – Cleveland Ohio. Doug is a lifetime music and vinyl enthusiast and spent several years managing the rock band Colorvine. As an entrepreneur, he’s founded several successful businesses including Silver City Design and the digital marketing agency Lead To Conversion. Doug’s love of music has inspired his association with Cape Fear Radio and his latest venture, Big Love Vinyl.
Roger C (aka TikiDude) is a self-described International Man of Mystery. After hearing he has “a face made for radio” most of his life, Roger is excited to join the the team at The Cape and brings a lifetime of passion for music of all types (as long as it has soul and speaks to his chakra). His music collection is vast and deep, consisting of both physical and digital formats. A recent transplant to the area, Roger is always on the lookout for live music. When not at concerts, he is exploring, boating, off-roading, trying to make things out of other things, and yucking it up with family & friends. Please don’t ask him to play “Misty” for you.
Mike Kopunek (aka Kope) grew up and raised his family in Rockland County, New York. After 31 years as a police officer he retired and moved to Southport. He and his wife Eileen enjoy pickleball and volunteering in the local elementary schools and also with our military through Operation at Ease. A self-professed music junkie, he is excited about sharing his love of music with the listeners.
Jimmy Velvet was born and raised in North Carolina. He moved around a bit, however, living in Tennessee. Kentucky and Georgia before moving to the Southport area. As a beach guy that loves the sun, he cannot imagine being anywhere but right here. Growing up in the South, Jim was raised on late 50s and 60s music, mostly folk and R&B before getting hooked on progressive rock and country music, with a bit of jazz thrown in for good measure.
